Lava is one of the more unique environmental liquids players can work with in Pokémon Pokopia. While Lava naturally appears in certain areas of the map, players can also create their own Lava pools, streams, and waterfalls for custom terrain builds.

However, Lava works differently from other liquids in the game. Unlike Hot Spring Water or Muddy Water, it cannot be safely collected directly by jumping into it. Because of that, players need a different method if they want to use Lava for building or terraforming.

Here’s how to make Lava in Pokémon Pokopia and how to remove or control it when needed.

How to Make Lava in Pokémon Pokopia

The easiest and safest way to create Lava is by using Chili Sauce.

In Pokémon Pokopia, Ditto can absorb different liquid types. When Ditto consumes Chili Sauce, it temporarily fills with Lava. Players can then place that Lava anywhere in the environment to create custom features like pools, streams, or waterfalls.

The Lava behaves like other liquids in the game and will naturally flow across terrain depending on the layout of the ground.

Trying to absorb Lava directly from the environment is not recommended. Jumping into Lava damages Ditto, and repeated attempts will cause the character to respawn nearby. Because of this, Chili Sauce is the intended method for using Lava in builds.

How to Get Chili Sauce

Chili Sauce can be obtained from Vending Machines found around Pokopia.

These machines require electricity and will dispense one random item per day when interacted with. Chili Sauce is one of the possible rewards, but the item given is completely random.

Since there is no way to guarantee Chili Sauce from a single machine, players should interact with as many Vending Machines as possible each day. Saving the items received can also help build up a supply of liquids for future building projects.

How Lava Works When Placed

Once Lava is placed in the environment, it behaves like a flowing liquid. This means players can design different terrain features such as:

  • Lava pools
  • Lava streams
  • Lava waterfalls

Because Lava flows naturally across terrain, shaping the land beforehand helps control where the Lava spreads.

This makes it useful for creating themed areas, especially habitats suited for Fire-type Pokémon, where Lava environments match the overall aesthetic.

Can You Move Lava in Pokémon Pokopia?

Lava cannot be picked up or moved once it has been placed.

Unlike some other liquids in the game, there is no mechanic that allows players to collect placed Lava again. However, it is still possible to remove it from the environment.

How to Remove Lava

To remove Lava, players need to use Water Spray.

Spraying water on Lava converts the liquid into a solid rock block. Once the Lava has turned into rock, it can be destroyed using Rock Smash.

This method allows players to clean up mistakes or reshape Lava environments.

If the entire Lava area is converted into rock, the Lava will stop appearing in that location. Blocking the Lava source will also prevent it from spreading further.

Tips for Building Lava Areas

Players who want to build Lava landscapes should prepare the terrain first before placing the liquid. This helps control how far the Lava flows and makes it easier to design streams or pools.

Saving Chili Sauce bottles from Vending Machines is also useful since Lava creation depends on having them available.

With the right setup, players can design their own volcanic-style zones in Pokémon Pokopia, which work well for Fire-type habitats or themed environments.

Happy ranching in Pokopia!
