Duckweed is one of the environmental elements players will need to understand in Pokémon Pokopia. This floating plant grows on water and is required for certain Habitats that attract specific Pokémon.
Players who want to complete the Pokopia Pokédex will eventually need to create Duckweed, since some Pokémon only appear in habitats that require it. Learning how to generate it early makes building habitats and unlocking new Pokémon much easier.
This guide explains how to make Duckweed in Pokémon Pokopia and whether it can be moved after being placed.
How to Make Duckweed
In Pokémon Pokopia, Duckweed is created using the Leafage ability while it is powered up.
However, Leafage cannot produce Duckweed immediately at the start of the game. The ability first needs to be enhanced by eating a Salad.
Players who have not unlocked cooking yet should head to Rocky Ridges and rescue Chef Dente. After helping him, cooking becomes available and salads can be prepared.
Once a Salad is eaten, the Leafage PP bar turns yellow, showing that the ability is powered up and has a limited number of enhanced uses.

After powering up Leafage, creating Duckweed is easy:
- Go to any body of water
- Use the Leafage ability on the water surface
- Hold the ability button to create a larger Duckweed patch
Larger patches of Duckweed will trigger the Uplifting Duckweed Habitat, which allows Pokémon like Lotad and its evolution line to appear.
Because of this, many players use Duckweed mainly for habitat creation and Pokémon spawns.
Can You Move Duckweed?
Currently, Duckweed cannot be moved once it has been placed in Pokémon Pokopia.
Abilities that work on other environmental objects do not relocate it:
- Rototiller does not pick it up
- Cut only destroys the Duckweed and leaves behind collectible Leaves
Because of this limitation, the best approach when building habitats is to create more Duckweed than needed and then trim the extra areas using Cut.
Fortunately, most Duckweed-based habitats in the game do not require extremely precise placement, so adjusting the shape is usually enough to complete the setup.
Why Duckweed Is Important
Duckweed plays a key role in several habitat builds in Pokémon Pokopia. Some Pokémon will only spawn in environments that contain floating foliage, making it necessary for Pokédex completion.
Once players unlock cooking, power up Leafage with Salad, and start placing Duckweed in water areas, they can begin unlocking the Uplifting Duckweed Habitat and attract Pokémon such as Lotad, Lombre, and Ludicolo.
For players focusing on habitat creation and rare Pokémon spawns, mastering Duckweed placement is an important step in progressing through the game.
